Protest Coverage

After a grand jury handed down a verdict not to indict Ferguson Mo. officer Darren Wilson after the shooting death of Michael Brown, protests in many major US cities were organized by activist groups. Three reporters of The Roundup News went to one of the protests in Downtown Los Angeles to cover and document the event.

This week’s Photo of the Week goes to Roundup News staff photographer Giuliana Orlandoni. Her feature photo of Professor Lawrence Krikorian holding a replica sword of Andúril from the Lord of The Rings films, made front page of the latest issue of the Roundup News. From the article written by Jordan Utley-Thomson:

“‘I first read The Lord of the Rings in [an] eighth grade algebra class by hiding it in my textbook,” Krikorian said while laughing. “I had never read it before, and I envy people who’ve never read The Lord of the Rings and get to read it for the first time.’

But as a scholar of the arts, Krikorian does not limit himself to just goblins and elves. He also enjoys the deeper and darker sensibilities of post-war American novelists such as Joseph Heller, Ernest Hemingway, and F. Scott Fitzgerald.”
